Yay! The "Show Us Your Life" series from Kelly's Korner is back and featuring one of my favorite topics - vacation spots today! I am so jazzed because we are a family who loves to travel. We like to go lots of different places, see the world, and rarely visit the same place twice. We have been to Disney...once. While we enjoyed that experience, there's so much other stuff out there to see and do!
Here we are in Arizona. My husband and I spent a few days extra after a conference in Phoenix. That is a part of the country that we rarely get to see. It was absolutely gorgeous. We visited the local Native American art museum, went to a Suns game, and took a desert adventure in this amazing ATV. We also used the city transportation and rode from one end of town to the other. It was cheap and easy. We also loved visiting the ASU campus area for lots of cool shops and places to eat.
Four our ten year anniversary we took a European cruise with Royal Caribbean cruise lines. Our ship left port in Barcelona, travel through the south of France (pictured), and went all the way down to the tip of Italy. We took shore excursions into France, Monaco, Florence, Pisa, Rome, Naples, and Sicily. I highly recommend this as a safe way to travel in Europe and to see lots of sights in one trip.
For my 30th birthday, my husband told me he was taking me shopping. He didn't tell me that he was taking me to the biggest mall in the United States! We did a long weekend to the Mall of America in Minnesota! There are lots of cheap flights and the mall is very close to the airport and tons of hotels. There's so much more than shopping in this mall - including a theme park! We had a ball!
I attended a Science Conference in New Orleans just last year. We'd never been to Louisiana and were amazed at how different the climate is in that area. We stayed right down in the French Quarter and ate biegnettes every night! I don't recommend this trip for kids - save this one for just you and your spouse!
We do go to the Gulf Shores area just about every year at fall break for a little beach time. We love the Perdido Key area because it is not commercialized at all. It's very quiet and laid back. We get a house in the Purple Parrot village. pack very little, and just chill for the week. Heaven! The kids love boogie boarding and the beaches and pools are perfect in October.
Probably our favorite vacation to date is the Moon Palace in Cancun, Mexico. We jumped on a last minute deal through expedia and took a chance on a totally new place. We were apprehensive to say the least, but it ended up being fabulous.
The chairs in the pool were my absolute favorite thing. The all inclusive option made this a truly worry free vacation. Everything we wanted to do was truly included - even food! We are already thinking about taking a trip back!
I'm already planning a trip this summer to Washington D.C. The kids will be 9 and 13, which I think are perfect ages to appreciate all of the history. I hope some you share your tips on that vacation!
Now, get out there and see the world. Enjoy!

One of my very best customers, Brittney Watts, is expecting a baby girl. She's got this adoarble pink jungle bedding set picked out for the nursery. She wanted a canvas with the baby's name, Isabella, painted to coordinate. Isn't this bedding soooo cute?
I took the soft pinks for the background with the name in a dark pink. There's a little white double border.
I also chose the turtle and a bright purple flower for one corner and a cluster of flowers in the other. It is all topped off with a big purple satin bow. Perfect!
Congratulations, Watts family!

I'm all about some glitter! I've been experimenting with glitter transfer and am very pleased with the results. My husband is less that thrilled with glitter all over the house. It's the price you pay for some pretty artwork - haha!! This 8x10 with the glitter heart is so sweet. I think it would be great in a little girl's room. It is topped with my new burlap polka dot ribbon.
Available - 8x10 - $20.00
This sweet little 5xt is in my studio right now and I'm really liking it in there! The "happy" is in glitter. I also found the coolest thing at Michael's - glitter burlap ribbon! Seriously!
Available - $15.00
This beautiful weather has gotten me to looking forward to summer...and buying new flip flops!! I did this 8x8 block canvas is pretty aquas and khaki. The "flip flops" is in glitter. It's nice and thick with the dots wrapped around the side. This one hangs or stands on it's own - no ribbon needed!
Available - $20.00

One of my very best customers, Brittney Watts, ordered this really pretty teacher canvas for her classroom. She sent me three swatches of chevron fabric in gray, hot pink, and a dark aqua to use as inspiration.
I combined all three colors into one chevron pattern. The dark aqua strip has been glittered for a little extra sparkle! I really do like how it turned out and so did Mrs. Watts!
As the end of the school year approaches, keep your teachers in mind! I have two 11x14's ready for immediate personalization and delivery. They are both $30.00. The top one featured three shades of aqua with the darkest strip being glittered. It has black ribbon and a black dotted border.
This one has a khaki background with black chevron and black ribbon. The circle frame in the center has a double dotted border. This is one of my favorites and would look great with just a monogram in the center.
In other summer news, I've chosen two topics for my summer painting classes in June. I don't have July planned and am taking suggestions! Just click here to get a sneak peek!!

Turning nine is a big deal! It's your last year in the single digits - haha! We starting all the festivities by making our own cupcakes to take to school and to have at our family party. Making them instead of buying them was Lauren's idea. Basically, I cook and she decorates! Thank goodness we had some snow days (as you can tell from the hair and pajamas!) and I had time to get it all done!
On Valentine's night, we had a family dinner at our house. We did order the cake! This cutie came from The Sweet Shop in Smithville. Shelli Williams is so easy to work with and her cakes taste just as good as they look. This thing was delicious! The name candles came from Party City.
Here she is blowing out the candles with her cousin, Elliot, and her Gen.
Love those smiles!
Our picture with the birthday girl!
Her gift was the new American Girl doll, Isabelle. She really wanted Isabelle because their hair and eye color are the same and they both love dance and fashion. They're like twins!! I wrapped up a different shaped box and she had to find the doll in a house scavenger hunt.
Lauren chose a Woodland Forest theme for her party. She always picks these random things that I really have hunt for to make a theme! I bought this woodland animal confetti at this etsy shop. I mixed it with some "Lauren" confetti from Party City. It was really cute sprinkled around!
These larger paper woodland animals came from this etsy shop. I just placed them here and there among the decorations. I liked them in the cupcake stand!
The party banner on the mantle came from this etsy shop. I love the wood patterned paper!
We also has bunches of brightly colored balloons all around. What's a party without balloons? All of these balloons came from Party City.
On Saturday, we loaded up her three best girlfriends and took them to Opry Mills Mall. They did up Build-A-Bear, Claire's, Justice...all those great little girl places!
Lauren's cousin, Prady, joined the crew at Dave and Buster's for lunch and games. Here they are devouring a gigantic sundae!
The girls! What a wonderful birthday memory!

Lauren Elizabeth was born on Valentine's Day 2005. She was the sweetest little Valentine ever. I remember my husband bringing me four pink roses. Pink for our little girl and four because that's how many were in our family now. She was such a good baby right from the start!
She has always loved to eat and has never been picky about her food. As a matter of fact, I can't think of anything she won't eat. She even eats raw oysters with her Pa!
She has never been much of a TV watcher - even though she did go through a serious Elmo phase! If the TV is on, she needs to be doing something else at the same time. She does like movies, but not what you'd think. She likes spies and action. Her favorite TV show is those old Mission Impossibles and her favorite movie is White House Down!
At three, she was all about the princesses. She's kind of outgrown that now. She does still like dressing up and lots of bling!
By four she was already starting to read and still reads a lot. She got a Kindle for Christmas because she always had mine! She likes to read Nancy Drew and Judy Moody. With all of the mysteries she likes, do you think she'll grow up to be a detective?
I don't know, but she says she wants to be a pediatrician. She got her first Bitty Baby at five and loves dolls and babies. She's very motherly and talks about having her own family all of the time. She takes meticulous care of her baby dolls. She's known for having one with her at all times!
At six, we changed schools and she started first grade at Centertown. I was worried about her being the "new kid" but she did just fine. She has a knack for adapting to just about any situation. She is a born leader - which can sometimes be a bad thing. She definitely likes for everything to go her way!
By the time she was seven, she'd been in several pageants and recitals for her ballet class. She shines on the stage! I am so proud of her for having the courage and confidence to get up in front of people. That's hard for most adults to do!
She's grown up so much during year eight. She's losing that little girl look and becoming a young lady. She's discovered basketball and had a wonderful season. Teaching her to be a lady and have good manners, compassion for others, and to be a good wife and mother is a huge responsibility.
What's coming up in year nine? She's starting Spanish lessons - her request. She'll graduate third grade and move on over to the "big kid" hallway with me. She's traveling to St. Louis and Washington D.C. She's pumped about the FBI museum and First Lady dress collection. It's a strange combination, but so her!
We love you so much, Lauren! Happy birthday!

I've had so much fun painting these little signs! This is something I've wanted to try for a while and I'm so glad I did. This side of the butterfly is ready for July - hard to imagine right now!
This side is a pretty aqua. It's actually glittered but it is hard to tell in the picture. It's waiting for a design and personalization of your choosing.
Butterfly - $20.00
I love that this one is completely different on both sides! You're ready for summer with a sun and cute aqua glitter sunglasses!
It's a daisy for spring on the other side. It would be really cute with a monogram in the center or a spring or Easter saying.
Sun/Daisy - $20.00
I think the little bird shape might just be my favorite! The one side is pastel chevron with "Happy Spring". I'd love to see this one in a wreath.
This side is a pretty new color I bought and it turned out so good! There's a sweet little fave and a plaid wing. You can add any custom wording that you'd like.
Bird - $20.00
This side of the dragonfly is more of the traditional design. I like the lime body and the mesh design on the wings. I've always loved dragonflies! This would be perfect for a cabin or houseboat. You can add a name or cute saying on this side.
The other side is very patriotic and ready for the 4th! So cute!
Dragonfly - $20.00

I decided to branch our from canvases a bit and paint a few little wooden signs. I ordered the signs already cut and with holes drilled from etsy. I painted them all over with a coat of white primer and took off! I had lots of ideas! First, I did a traditional strawberry with "Happy Summer".
This is just one side. I did the other side completely different so you can flip it over and get even more use!
The other side is a pink glitter strawberry with hot pink dots. It is ready for whatever personalization you'd like. They all are wired for hanging and have a ribbon accent. They are all also sealed for outdoor use.
Strawberry - $20.00
The bee is polka dotted on one side with "Happy Summer" in aqua and a matching aqua ribbon.
On the other side, a more traditional bee waiting for your personalization. He looks pretty cute just plain, too! I think this would be a great teacher gift!
Bee - $20.00
The ladybug is pink and gray chevron on one side with "Welcome Spring" and black dotted ribbon.
The other side is the classic red and black ladybug and can be personalized. All of these are perfect on their own but look really cute in a wreath, too!
Ladybug - $20.00
There's only one of each so claim your custom wooden sign soon!
