Ringing in the New Year Right - Giveaway #8

I can't believe it is already giveaway number eight. It is going by so fast! Today’s featured blogger is my friend and fellow teacher, Stephanie Doak. Stephanie is a very talented artist and the vision behind Willowbird Woods. She is married to Shannon Doak and says that, “he is such a great husband, and I couldn't do what I do without him. He washes dishes and does laundry when I am busy working on paintings, and doesn't complain one bit”. I think all of us busy women understand the value of a good man!

Stephanie is also known as a big reader. She mostly reads sci-fi or fantasy novels, but also loves a good murder mystery (don’t we all?) and the classics. In fact, she just found this program called "52 books in 52 weeks," and is really thinking about trying to do that.
And finally, she loves to decorate her home. She says, “I think I've painted every wall in my house at least twice, and I rearrange my decor all the time. Shannon doesn't mind, so I just keep going”. Again, a good man!

I wanted to tell you all about Willowbird Woods, but Stephanie did it beautifully herself. Here is how she describes her artwork: “Willowbird Woods Arts and Crafts was created by myself, Stephanie Doak, and is my way of sharing my world with others. Most of my work is done with acrylic paint on canvas, but I also paint on wooden boards. I guess you could call my art whimsical natural. I am inspired by the beauty of the natural world that God has given us. I love to stare at the clouds...watch the wind blow through the trees...birds glide through the air... I could spend hours walking through a forest. So I have taken these things that I love, added a little whimsy, and created Willowbird Woods.”

Stephanie has only been selling her art for about four months, but has always loved to paint. Things really took off for her after she started her blog and was a hit at the Autumn Street Fair. In the new year, she will certainly continue painting but also hopes to add bags, pillows, and other fabric arts. She also plans to open an etsy store.
Why does she paint? In her own words, “Painting is such a stress reliever for me. I would paint even if I didn't sell my art. I love coming home, getting into my old "paint clothes", turning on some music, and starting a new painting. It puts me in my "happy place", o.k... I feel like Bob Ross saying that.” I guess you can see why Stephanie and I are friends. We have so much in common!

Please leave a nice comment today and you will be entered to win a gift certificate for a custom 11x14 canvas. Stephanie will paint whatever you like just for you! There are so many possibilities! Be sure to visit her blog for more ideas and to see more of her beautiful creations. Good luck!
